MER Solutions established digital inspection platform BVIQ.NET is used by the maritime industry for safety and condition assessments on board ships and to promote best practice. MER also provides vetting, tailored consultancy, incident investigations and undertakes project feasibility and engineering studies, in the maritime field.

About the Role:
Mer Solutions Asia Pacific Pty Ltd is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Marine Superintendent to join the team. This role involves taking key role with MER Solutions to facilitate safe vessel and terminal operations through various means including but not limited to carry out inspections using widely accepted in house inspection platform BVIQ to ensure compliance with International and National Maritime legislations e.g. SOLAS, MLC, MARPOL etc. The role further diversifies in acting as an interface between vessel and terminal to ensure safe and efficient cargo operations, coordinating with different stakeholders of the maritime transport for compliant shipping operations and to assist stakeholders with incident investigation reports and findings.
The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with excellent communication and problem-solving skills, capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities:
• Responsible for playing a key role in MER Solutions’ vessel and terminal operations, including on-site attendance, representation, and oversight of safety compliance programs to ensure safe management and efficient operations of the vessels.
• Responsible for carrying out inspections and audits on behalf of terminal / vessel owners / charterers / operators to ensure vessel’s compliance with International and National Safety and Environmental legislations.
• Port Captaincy on behalf of Vessel’s Owners to ensure safe and efficient operations by ensuring functionality of critical machineries onboard and by directing vessel’s staff on behalf of vessel’s owners.
• Responsible for collection of vessel’s performance data and other operational parameters and to generate detailed reports using MER’s in house and widely accepted platform BVIQ.net.
• Carry out duties of a loading master acting as an interface between Terminal / Vessel and Ship Owners (external stakeholders).
• Liaising with Internal Stakeholders for providing valuable suggestions and inputs to improve the existing operational procedures.
• Engagement with Internal as well as external stakeholders to carry out investigations related to operational matters of the vessel including equipment failure, non-compliance with established procedures etc.
• Delivered superintendence and representation services during port calls on behalf of ports, shipowners, operators, charterers, and terminals.
Skills and Qualifications
• Must have sailed on Ocean going vessels as Sr. Deck watchkeeping Officer preferably on Bulk Liquid vessels.
• Must have strong knowledge of international and national maritime regulations and safety procedures.
• Must hold Maritime Education in the field of maritime, logistics, naval architecture, engineering or shipping business discipline from an internationally recognized institute.
• ISO 9001 Quality Management System Lead Auditor Certification and ISM / ISPS / MLC Internal Auditor Certification.
• Loading Master / Port Captaincy experience on different type of vessels preferably on dry bulk carriers, liquid bulk vessels.
• Demonstrated previous experience and knowledge of vessel inspections (eg OCIMF Sire, internal audit), marine superintendence, class, technical superintendence, port, vessel and shipboard management, marine and engineering operations, SOLAS, Class and other regulatory compliance requirements, (preferred)
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team with confident professional approach to responsibilities, with customer, stakeholder and regulatory body communications.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
• Computer literate with hands on experience with report writing skills and strong understanding of Bulk Vessel Inspection Questionnaire (BVIQ).
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and requirements including taking on challenges / assignments at short notices.
• Must be able to travel / relocate to regional locations depending upon the organization’s requirements.
• MSIC holder (or ability to hold a MSIC card) and a valid Australian Driver license.
Successful candidates will be on an annual salary of $120,000 to $150,000, Plus Superannuation.
