Position Title: Full Time Materials Engineer

Salary : $90,000 per annum + superannuation
Extal Aluminium Pty Ltd is a leading manufacturer of high-quality aluminium extrusions for the Australian construction, architectural, and industrial sectors. The Materials Engineer is responsible for ensuring the selection, development, and application of materials meets both production and customer requirements. This role combines technical expertise in aluminium and associated materials with process optimisation, product development, and quality assurance.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct detailed materials assessments for aluminium profiles to ensure suitability for extrusion, machining, and finishing processes.
• Prepare designs and prototypes, including 3D-printed models, to validate customer specifications before production.
• Perform pre-production cost analyses for aluminium and sheet metal products, including bending, cutting, and drilling operations.
• Research and develop new aluminium profile concepts, considering market demand, performance, strength, weight, and cost factors.
• Monitor the operation and maintenance of materials processing equipment to ensure efficiency and compliance with safety standards.
• Recommend materials and equipment that conform to design specifications and regulatory requirements.
• Diagnose material or process-related issues in production and implement corrective actions.
• Collaborate with suppliers of metals, alloys, and other materials to evaluate suitability for specific applications.
• Conduct laboratory tests and analyse product failure data to identify root causes and recommend improvements.
• Contribute to the maintenance and updating of product catalogues and support marketing communications, including website and social media content.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives, including sustainability and waste reduction in materials usage.
Experience and Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Engineering.
• At least 3 years of experience relevant to the role.
