Position: Motor Mechanic (Full-Time)

Salary: $80,000 $90,000 + Superannuation (commensurate with experience)
Dial A Tow Australia Pty Ltd is a well-established, family-owned business providing professional roadside assistance, accident recovery, trade, and general towing services since 1987. With a growing fleet of over 60 tow trucks and expanding operations, the company also delivers on-site vehicle repairs and mechanical support as part of its roadside assistance services.
Due to continued growth, we are seeking a qualified and experienced Motor Mechanic to join our team on a full-time basis.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Detect and diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in light vehicles, tow trucks, and other fleet vehicles using diagnostic tools and equipment
• Carry out repairs and maintenance on engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering components, and suspension systems
• Dismantle and remove engine assemblies and other components, inspect parts, and determine repair requirements
• Repair or replace worn, damaged, or defective components and reassemble mechanical parts to manufacturer specifications
• Perform scheduled maintenance services, including oil changes, lubrication, engine tuning, and safety checks to ensure optimal vehicle performance
• Test and adjust mechanical systems after repair to ensure proper functionality and roadworthiness
• Use computerised diagnostic equipment to identify faults and ensure efficient repair outcomes
• Conduct vehicle inspections and identify work required to meet roadworthiness and safety standards
• Respond to roadside assistance and breakdown service calls, including emergency repairs where required
• Assist in maintaining the company’s fleet of tow trucks and service vehicles to minimise downtime
• Maintain accurate service records and comply with workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements
• Provide guidance and mentoring to apprentices and junior staff
Essential Criteria
• Relevant qualification such as Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent
• Minimum 3 4 years of relevant work experience in a similar role
• Strong diagnostic and repair skills across a range of vehicles
• Competent level of English communication
• Valid driver’s licence
• Ability to work independently and respond to breakdown/service calls as required
• Willingness to live and work in regional South Australia (Port Augusta)
Highly Preferred Criteria
• Experience working with tow trucks, heavy vehicles, or commercial fleets
• Previous experience in roadside assistance or field service repairs
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
