Full Time Chef
Salary Range of $75,000 to $85,000 per annum plus superannuation
A chef at Punjabi Hut Indian Restaurant is required to perform the following responsibilities include but not limited to:
Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation & Cooking
• Planning, preparation, and cooking of high-quality dishes in accordance with the restaurant’s menu and standards.
• Preparing and handling ingredients, including chopping, cutting, marinating, mixing, seasoning, and cooking a wide variety of Indian dishes such as curries, tandoori items, and regional specialties.
• Monitoring food preparation and cooking processes to ensure high standards of taste, authenticity, portioning, and presentation.
• Checking the quality of raw and cooked food products to ensure they meet established standards.
Menu Planning & Development
• Planning and developing menus in consultation with management, including designing seasonal menus, introducing new dishes, and modifying recipes to meet customer preferences and dietary requirements.
Staff Supervision & Operational Responsibility
• Supervising, training, and coordinating kitchen staff, including cooks and kitchen hands.
• Taking full responsibility for kitchen operations, workflow, food production processes, and staff performance.
• Managing kitchen staff schedules to ensure adequate staffing during service periods.
Stock & Inventory Management
• Selecting, ordering, and managing stock of specialized ingredients (e.g., spices, lentils, and meats).
• Ensuring proper storage, handling, and rotation of perishable goods.
Cost Management & Efficiency
• Managing food and labour costs, monitoring kitchen expenses, minimising wastage, and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability.
Cleanliness, Safety & Compliance
• Maintaining cleanliness, organisation, and compliance across all kitchen areas.
• Ensuring adherence to food safety, hygiene, and occupational health and safety (OH&S) standards.
Customer Feedback & Quality Improvement
• Handling customer feedback related to food quality and implementing necessary improvements.
• Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements and company policies.
Qualifications and Skills Required
• Relevant trade qualifications in Commercial Cookery.
• Proven experience in the hospitality industry, particularly as a cook/chef in an Indian restaurant.
• Expertise in Indian cuisine, particularly curries (experience with tandoor cooking is highly advantageous).
• Strong knowledge of kitchen equipment and operations.
• Sound understanding of food safety regulations.
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Team-oriented mindset with excellent communication skills.
