SALARY Range of $80,000 to $87,000 per annum

D Fresh Produce is a leading agricultural enterprise specialising in Asian vegetables. Operating on a 50-acre farm in Mangrove Mountain, the business has increased its production capacity tenfold through the adoption of innovative farming methods, including hydroponics and mechanisation. The farm produces premium herbs and vegetables such as white radish, baby bok choy, shallots, coriander, mint, and parsley, supplying Sydney Growers Market five days a week. Position Summary
The Irrigation Technician is responsible for the installation, operation, maintenance, and optimisation of irrigation systems across D Fresh Produce’s hydroponic and soil-based production areas. This includes managing pumps, filtration units, drip and sprinkler systems, valves, and smart irrigation controllers. The role also supports fertigation operations, sensor calibration, water-efficiency monitoring, troubleshooting, compliance, and detailed record-keeping to ensure reliable water delivery, crop health, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
• Install, assemble, and test irrigation systems including pumps, valves, sprinklers, drip lines, and filters.
• Conduct routine inspections to identify leaks, blockages, pressure inconsistencies, and faulty components.
• Perform repairs and replacements of irrigation parts to maintain system efficiency.
• Operate and monitor automated and manual irrigation systems to ensure crop-specific water requirements are met and soil/hydroponic conditions remain optimal.
• Adjust irrigation schedules based on crop growth stage, climate conditions, and seasonal needs.
• Diagnose faults in pumps, controllers, pipelines, and irrigation hardware.
• Carry out corrective action including cleaning, calibration, and component replacement.
• Liaise with suppliers for spare parts and ensure minimal downtime during peak production periods.
• Implement sustainable irrigation practices by monitoring water usage for compliance, and supporting the integration of rainwater collection and recycled water systems.
• Provide guidance to farm workers on safe irrigation practices, including the correct use of pumps and control systems, while contributing to continuous improvements in system efficiency and reliability.

Qualifications and Skills
• Qualification in a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in irrigation installation, operation, and repair in a commercial farm setting.
• Strong competency in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting irrigation equipment not limiting to pumps, drip lines, sprinklers, valves, and filtration systems.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in field conditions.
• Understanding of fertiliser application, crop water requirements, and farm safety practices.
• Ability to maintain accurate work logs, data records, and system reports.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in an outdoor farm environment.
