Salary: $70,000 $85,000 per year plus superannuation, depending on skills and experience
The Indian Royal Flavours is seeking an experienced Chef to join our kitchen team in South Townsville. We serve Indian cuisine prepared with fresh ingredients and traditional flavours. You will prepare and present meals, contribute to menu planning and help maintain consistent food quality during service.
Key Responsibilities
Plan menus in consultation with management, considering customer preferences, ingredient availability and food costs.
Prepare, cook and present Indian dishes, including curries, tandoori dishes, breads, rice dishes, entrees, sauces and accompaniments.
Monitor the quality, taste, portion size and presentation of meals.
Check the freshness and quality of ingredients and ensure appropriate storage and stock rotation.
Estimate ingredient requirements, assist with ordering supplies and monitor stock levels.
Coordinate food preparation and manage orders during busy service periods.
Develop new dishes and improve existing menu items where required.
Minimise food waste while maintaining the restaurant’s quality standards.
Maintain a clean, organised and safe kitchen and follow food safety and hygiene requirements.
Train, guide and supervise junior kitchen staff where required.
Communicate with kitchen and front-of-house staff to support efficient service.
Qualifications and Experience
1 3 years of relevant experience working as a Chef in a restaurant or commercial kitchen.
A qualification in Commercial Cookery, Hospitality or a related field will be highly regarded. Relevant practical industry experience will also be considered.
Experience preparing Indian cuisine and knowledge of Indian ingredients, spices and cooking techniques will be highly regarded.
Sound knowledge of food preparation, portion control, stock management and food safety practices.
Ability to maintain consistent quality while managing multiple orders during busy periods.
Good organisation, communication and teamwork skills.
Availability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays when required.
