Job Description

An STP Operator (Sewage Treatment Plant Operator) is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the sewage treatment plant to ensure that wastewater is properly treated and complies with applicable environmental and safety standards. The operator monitors and controls pumps, blowers, aeration systems, clarifiers, filtration systems, chemical dosing equipment, and sludge-handling systems. The role includes checking and recording operating parameters such as pH, dissolved oxygen, flow rate, water levels, turbidity, and chemical dosage, as well as collecting wastewater and treated-water samples for testing. The STP Operator performs routine inspections, cleaning, basic troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and safe handling of treatment chemicals. The operator also maintains accurate daily operating logs, equipment records, chemical consumption records, and maintenance reports, while promptly reporting equipment breakdowns, leaks, abnormal readings, and other operational issues to the supervisor. In addition, the STP Operator ensures proper sludge handling and disposal, maintains good housekeeping in the treatment plant area, follows health, safety, and environmental procedures, and assists maintenance and environmental teams during inspections, audits, and other plant activities.
