Production Manager (Manufacturing)
GMD Canberra is a locally owned and operated food manufacturing business based in Fyshwick, Canberra. We specialise in producing fresh, chef-made, high-protein ready meals for customers across Canberra, Queanbeyan and surrounding areas.
Our manufacturing operation produces a diverse range of fresh meals, with more than 60 meal options, regular new menu additions and different portion and dietary requirements. Our products are manufactured locally and distributed to customers through weekly production and delivery cycles.
As our production operations continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced Production Manager (Manufacturing) to oversee and coordinate our manufacturing activities and ensure that production is delivered efficiently, safely, consistently and to the required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop, implement and monitor production plans and strategies to meet required output, quality, customer demand, labour requirements and production timelines.
• Direct and coordinate day-to-day manufacturing activities, ensuring efficient workflow, production capacity and timely completion of scheduled orders.
• Monitor production output, productivity, batch yields, labour utilisation, wastage and costs, implementing improvements to maximise efficiency and minimise costs.
• Control the operation and maintenance of production plant and equipment, including coordinating preventative maintenance and overseeing the acquisition, installation and commissioning of new machinery.
• Oversee quality control, HACCP, food safety and production procedures to ensure products consistently meet required quality, safety and regulatory standards.
• Direct and coordinate production staff, allocate responsibilities, monitor performance, identify training requirements and support workforce development and productivity.
• Oversee production records and reports, monitor raw material and packaging requirements, and ensure adequate resources are available to support uninterrupted production.
• Research and implement improved production methods, Lean/5S/Kaizen initiatives and workplace health and safety measures to improve operational efficiency and maintain a safe manufacturing environment.
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this position, you will have:
• Demonstrated experience in a Production Manager, Manufacturing Manager, Plant Manager, Operations Manager or similar manufacturing management position.
• Experience managing production operations within a manufacturing environment, preferably food manufacturing or a high-volume food production environment.
• Experience managing production teams and monitoring employee performance.
• Knowledge of food safety, HACCP and quality control requirements will be highly regarded.
• Ability to manage competing production priorities and meet strict production and dispatch deadlines.
Qualifications
A relevant bachelor’s Level qualification
Minimum 3 Years relevant extensive industry experience
