Full-Time Earthmoving Plant Operator
SALARY $80,000 + SUPERANNUATION
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Operate excavators and other earthmoving equipment safely and efficiently across construction and civil works sites.
• Carry out excavation, trenching, bulk earthworks, site preparation, levelling and material movement in accordance with project requirements.
• Inspect machinery before commencing work and ensure equipment is positioned correctly for safe operation.
• Select and use appropriate machine attachments for each task, including buckets, hydraulic breakers and other approved attachments.
• Load and relocate soil, sand, gravel, rock, rubble and other construction materials as required.
• Use hydraulic and machine controls to achieve accurate digging depths, levels, gradients and finished surfaces.
• Follow site plans, survey markings, levels, drawings and instructions provided by supervisors and site personnel.
• Monitor machine performance during operation and make appropriate adjustments to maintain safe and efficient working conditions.
• Maintain awareness of surrounding workers, vehicles, underground services and site hazards while operating machinery.
• Assist with backfilling, spreading, grading and preparation of work areas where required.
• Perform routine pre-start and operational checks, including checking fluid levels, tyres/tracks, hydraulic systems and attachments.
• Carry out basic cleaning, greasing, refuelling and general preventative maintenance of plant and equipment.
• Identify equipment faults or maintenance requirements and report them promptly to the appropriate supervisor.
• Undertake minor operational adjustments and basic repairs where authorised and within the operator's level of competency.
• Comply with workplace health and safety requirements, site procedures, traffic management arrangements and company policies.
• Complete required plant inspection records, pre-start checklists and other site documentation.
• Work cooperatively with supervisors, truck drivers, labourers and other plant operators to complete projects safely and within scheduled timeframes.
REQUIRED SKILLS
• Minimum 2 years' experience operating bobcats and excavators in the civil construction, retaining wall, landscaping, or earthworks industry.
• Demonstrated experience in site preparation, excavation, trenching, backfilling, levelling, grading, and soil removal using bobcats and excavators.
• Proven experience operating auger attachments for drilling holes for concrete footings, retaining wall posts, fence posts, and other structural foundations.
• Ability to excavate accurately to specified depths, widths, and levels in accordance with site plans and engineering requirements.
• Experience loading, unloading, moving, and handling construction materials using machinery in a safe and efficient manner.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, site plans, measurements, levels, and set-out information.
• Experience working around underground services including water, gas, electrical, communications, and drainage infrastructure.
• Sound understanding of workplace health and safety procedures, hazard identification, risk management, and safe operation of plant and equipment.
• Ability to carry out routine machinery inspections, daily maintenance checks, and basic servicing of equipment.
• White Card required.
• Current Australian Driver's Licence required.
• Relevant machinery operating tickets, VOCs (Verification of Competency), or recognised industry certifications highly regarded.
• Physically fit and capable of performing manual labour associated with retaining wall installation, construction works, and general site duties when required.
Fluency in English is required

• Candidates with experience in both physical store and e-commerce environments are highly regarded.
• Ability to operate bobcats and excavators safely and efficiently on construction sites.
• Experience excavating footing holes, trenching, site preparation, backfilling, and material handling.
• Ability to perform manual labour associated with retaining wall installation and construction works.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Strong understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends and public holidays may be required.
