As the business grows, the volume of enquiries, quotations, customer communications, logistics coordination, and debtor management activities has increased significantly. To support this expansion, the company is seeking a dedicated Business Sales Executive to strengthen commercial operations, develop new business opportunities, manage customer relationships, and support the efficient coordination of transport services.
Role Overview
The Business Sales Executive will play a key role in supporting the growth and commercial success of Velocity Logistics Limited. The successful candidate will be responsible for generating new business opportunities, managing quotations, maintaining customer relationships, coordinating logistics activities, monitoring logistics platforms, and supporting the collection of outstanding payments.
Working closely with management, drivers, subcontractors, and customers, the role will help ensure that business development, customer service, and commercial operations are managed effectively, allowing operational staff to remain focused on transport delivery and fulfilment activities.
This position is essential to supporting the company's continued expansion, improving operational efficiency, and strengthening customer retention and revenue generation.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Sales
Identify and develop new business opportunities across the logistics, haulage, transport, and distribution sectors.
Generate leads through networking, referrals, logistics platforms, and direct business development activities.
Build and maintain a strong pipeline of prospective customers.
Develop relationships with SMEs, commercial clients, freight users, and logistics customers.
Achieve agreed business development and sales targets.
Promote the company's transport, haulage, dedicated vehicle, and pallet distribution services.
Maintain awareness of market trends, competitor activity, and emerging opportunities within the logistics sector.
Customer Relationship Management
Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing customers.
Act as a key point of contact for customer enquiries and service requests.
Ensure a high standard of customer service and communication at all times.
Develop long-term customer relationships that encourage repeat business and referrals.
Manage customer expectations and provide regular service updates where required.
Resolve customer enquiries and escalate issues where necessary.
Quotations & Commercial Activities
Prepare, issue, and manage quotations for transport and logistics services.
Follow up quotations and commercial proposals to maximise conversion rates.
Negotiate commercial terms and pricing with prospective customers.
Maintain records of live quotations and sales opportunities.
Monitor enquiry pipelines and support the conversion of opportunities into secured contracts.
Assist management with developing pricing strategies and commercial proposals.
Logistics Platform Management
Monitor logistics platforms including Courier Exchange and other freight marketplace systems.
Identify suitable transport opportunities and business prospects.
Respond to platform enquiries and submit quotations where appropriate.
Maintain platform activity records and customer engagement information.
Support growth by increasing the volume of work secured through logistics platforms.
Operational Coordination
Coordinate collections and deliveries between customers, drivers, and subcontractors.
Allocate transport jobs to drivers and subcontracted transport providers where required.
Monitor service progress and assist with operational communication.
Support scheduling activities to maximise resource utilisation and service delivery performance.
Ensure customer instructions and delivery requirements are accurately communicated.
Debtor Management & Payment Follow-Up
Monitor outstanding customer invoices and payment schedules.
Follow up customers regarding overdue invoices and payment commitments.
Maintain records of debtor communications and payment agreements.
Support the business in managing healthy cash flow through proactive payment follow-up.
Work closely with management regarding customer accounts and payment performance.
Marketing & Outreach
Support customer acquisition through direct outreach and business networking activities.
Assist with the promotion of company services through online platforms and business channels.
Develop relationships with potential customers, suppliers, and strategic partners.
Support referral generation and customer retention initiatives.
Identify opportunities to enhance the company's visibility within the market.
Administration & Reporting
Maintain accurate CRM records, customer databases, and sales activity reports.
Record quotations, customer interactions, contracts, and commercial activities.
Prepare regular reports on sales performance, customer activity, invoice follow-ups, and business development outcomes.
Monitor lead conversion rates and customer acquisition performance.
Maintain organised records of business opportunities and commercial relationships.
Requirements
Essential
Previous experience in Sales, Business Development, Customer Relationship Management, Account Management, or a related commercial role.
Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
Experience managing customer enquiries and converting opportunities into business.
Strong administrative and organisational abilities.
Ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced environment.
Excellent customer service and stakeholder management skills.
Commercial awareness and a proactive approach to business development.
Competent in Microsoft Office applications and CRM systems.
Full UK driving licence.
Right to work in the United Kingdom.
Desirable
Experience within logistics, transport, freight, haulage, courier, or supply chain sectors.
Familiarity with Courier Exchange and other logistics marketplace platforms.
Experience preparing quotations and negotiating commercial agreements.
Understanding of debtor management and invoice follow-up processes.
Knowledge of transport operations and logistics coordination.
Degree in Business, Marketing, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline.
