Full Time Chef
SALARY $79,500 + SUPERANNUATION
Maree’s Cafe is seeking a skilled and reliable Chef to support the preparation, cooking, presentation, and ongoing development of its cafe and catering food offerings. The Chef will be responsible for preparing high-quality meals across breakfast, lunch, takeaway, and catering service, including hot meals, burgers, sandwiches, wraps, salads, roast meals, seafood dishes, finger food, platters, and dietary-specific menu items.
The role requires strong practical cooking ability, sound knowledge of food safety and kitchen hygiene, effective kitchen organisation, and the capacity to work efficiently in a fast-paced cafe and catering environment. The Chef will also contribute to menu planning, food costing, stock control, ordering, kitchen workflow, quality control, and the training and supervision of kitchen staff where required.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare and cook high-quality meals consistently, efficiently, and in line with Maree’s Cafe’s menu and service standards.
• Prepare cafe and catering items, including breakfast dishes, hot meals, burgers, sandwiches, wraps, salads, platters, roast meals, seafood dishes, and daily specials.
• Plan and contribute to menu items, specials, and catering offerings.
• Estimate food and labour costs and assist with ordering food supplies.
• Monitor the quality, freshness, portioning, and presentation of dishes at all stages of preparation and service.
• Discuss food preparation, menu, and service issues with managers, kitchen staff, and waiting staff.
• Demonstrate cooking techniques and advise kitchen staff on preparation, cooking procedures, portioning, and presentation.
• Maintain food safety, hygiene, sanitation, allergen management, and workplace health and safety standards.
• Explain and enforce hygiene regulations and safe food handling procedures.
• Assist with stock control, stock rotation, deliveries, ordering, storage, and waste reduction.
• Support efficient kitchen operations during daily cafe service and catering preparation.
• Train, guide, and supervise kitchen staff where required.
• Freeze, preserve, store, and reheat food safely where appropriate.

• To be considered, you need:
• Food Safety Certificate, or willingness to obtain.
• Strong teamwork, communication skills, and ability to work under pressure.
• Knowledge of food safety standards, HACCP, and WHS requirements.
Required Skills:
• Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery recognised in Australia (or higher)
• Proven professional work experience as qualified chef (minimum 1 years).
• Experience in preparing continental dishes
• Experience in catering for large functions and events
