Position Summary
The Commercial Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and equipment in commercial facilities. This position requires a strong understanding of electrical codes, safety procedures, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team to complete projects safely, efficiently, and with high-quality workmanship.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Install electrical systems in commercial buildings according to blueprints, specifications, and applicable codes.
Bend and install conduit (EMT, PVC, rigid, and flexible conduit).
Pull wire and terminate electrical equipment and devices.
Install panels, transformers, switchgear, lighting systems, receptacles, and controls.
Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems and equipment.
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and electrical diagrams.
Perform preventative maintenance and service work.
Ensure compliance with NEC, OSHA regulations, and company safety policies.
Use hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and measuring devices safely and effectively.
Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, customers, and other trades.
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Complete daily paperwork, timekeeping, and job documentation as required.
Attend safety meetings and required training.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of commercial electrical experience preferred.
Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
Ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record preferred.
Ability to work overtime and occasional weekends as needed.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and climb ladders for extended periods.
Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
Ability to distinguish colors for identifying electrical wiring.
Safety Requirements
Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including:
Hard hat
Safety glasses
High-visibility clothing
Work boots
Gloves and hearing protection as required
Participate in safety meetings and training.
Report unsafe conditions, accidents, and near misses immediately.
Preferred Skills
Experience with commercial service work and tenant upfits.
Experience with generators and transfer switches.
Knowledge of lighting controls and low-voltage systems.
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
Ability to operate lifts and other jobsite equipment.
