Key Responsibilities
Menu Preparation & Cooking
Prepare, cook, and present dishes to the highest standards of quality and consistency
Follow and develop recipes, portion control guidelines, and plating specifications
Ensure all dishes are prepared in a timely manner during service periods
Adapt menus to reflect seasonal ingredients, dietary requirements, and customer preferences
Maintain creativity and innovation in dish development in collaboration with management
Kitchen Management & Operations
Oversee day-to-day kitchen operations, ensuring smooth and efficient service
Monitor food preparation processes to maintain quality standards at all times
Manage mise en place to ensure the kitchen is fully prepared ahead of each service
Oversee and supervise junior kitchen staff and commis chefs during shifts
Ensure all kitchen equipment is correctly operated, cleaned, and maintained
Stock Control & Procurement
Monitor stock levels and place orders with approved suppliers as required
Receive and check deliveries, ensuring quality and quantity meet specifications
Conduct regular stock takes and implement effective stock rotation procedures
Minimise food waste through effective planning, portioning, and storage practices
Liaise with management on purchasing decisions, supplier relationships, and costs
Food Safety & Compliance
Ensure full compliance with food hygiene and safety regulations at all times
Maintain accurate HACCP records, temperature logs, and cleaning schedules
Implement and uphold allergen management procedures in line with legal requirements
Conduct and record regular kitchen hygiene checks and risk assessments
Ensure all team members adhere to food safety standards and personal hygiene rules
Team Supervision & Training
Mentor and train junior kitchen staff, supporting their development and skill progression
Provide clear guidance and leadership during service to maintain standards and pace
Assist with rota planning and shift management as directed by management
Foster a positive, professional, and collaborative kitchen environment
Person Specification
Essential
Minimum 2 years' experience working as a Chef in a professional kitchen environment
Demonstrated ability to prepare and present high-quality dishes across a range of cuisines or specialisms
Sound knowledge of food safety, hygiene legislation, and HACCP principles
Strong understanding of allergen management and dietary requirements
Experience in stock control, ordering, and working with food suppliers
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen environment
Good organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities during service
Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
Right to work in the United Kingdom
Desirable
Formal culinary qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 2/3 in Professional Cookery or equivalent)
Experience in menu planning, recipe development, and costing
Familiarity with HR or kitchen management software
Experience supervising or mentoring junior kitchen staff
Knowledge of South Asian, international, or specialist cuisine relevant to the business offering
Experience working within a growing or multi-site food business
Terms & Conditions
Salary: 31,300 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Holiday: 28 days per annum including bank holidays
Pension: Auto-enrolment in accordance with statutory requirements
Notice Period: One month (following probationary period)
Probationary Period: Six months
