Job Overview
The Motor Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, servicing, and repairing a broad range of motor vehicles to ensure safe operation and optimal performance. The role involves utilising diagnostic equipment and technical expertise to identify mechanical and electrical faults, undertake repairs and maintenance, and ensure all work is completed in accordance with manufacturer specifications, workplace safety requirements, and industry standards. The position requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a busy automotive workshop environment.

Key Responsibilities

Vehicle Diagnostics, Servicing and Repairs
• Conduct inspections and diagnostic assessments on vehicle systems including engine, transmission,
steering, suspension, braking, cooling and electrical systems.
• Utilise diagnostic equipment and testing tools to identify faults and determine suitable repair methods.
• Perform repairs and replacement of defective mechanical and electrical components to restore vehicle performance and functionality.
• Carry out preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing activities in accordance with
manufacturer recommendations.

Mechanical Dismantling and Reassembly
• Dismantle, inspect and reassemble engines, gearboxes, suspension components, braking systems and related assemblies.
• Examine components for wear, damage or defects and determine repair or replacement requirements.
• Rebuild and fit components ensuring correct alignment, calibration and operation.
• Follow workshop manuals, technical specifications and manufacturer procedures during repairs.

Replacement and Installation of Components
• Remove and replace worn or defective parts including clutches, brake systems, timing components, filters, pumps, batteries and related assemblies.
• Install replacement parts ensuring compatibility with vehicle make and model specifications.
• Test completed repairs and undertake road testing where required to confirm functionality and
performance.
• Ensure all replacement components are fitted in accordance with safety and manufacturer standards.

Routine Maintenance and Vehicle Servicing
• Perform scheduled servicing including oil and filter changes, lubrication, fluid replacement and
inspections.
• Conduct brake servicing, tyre checks, wheel balancing and suspension inspections.
• Carry out engine tuning and adjustments to improve efficiency and performance.
• Inspect air conditioning and cooling systems and perform minor repairs and servicing where required.

Fault Finding and Troubleshooting
• Identify and rectify mechanical and electrical faults using diagnostic procedures and workshop
equipment.
• Analyse system performance and repair faults affecting drivability, engine operation and vehicle safety.
• Work efficiently to minimise downtime while maintaining quality workmanship standards.
• Escalate complex issues and provide technical recommendations where required.

Compliance and Workshop Safety
• Ensure all repairs and servicing comply with manufacturer specifications and Australian WHS
requirements.
• Maintain workshop cleanliness and safe handling of tools, machinery and hazardous substances.
• Complete quality checks and final inspections prior to vehicle release.
• Follow workplace procedures and contribute to maintaining a safe working environment.

Documentation and Customer Service
• Maintain accurate service records, diagnostic notes and repair documentation.
• Record parts usage and advise on inventory requirements where necessary.
• Communicate repair findings and maintenance recommendations clearly to customers and
management.
• Assist in maintaining a high standard of customer service and workshop operations.

Additional Responsibilities
• Assist in maintaining workshop tools and equipment in good working condition.
• Support apprentices or junior staff where required.
• Participate in ongoing training and remain updated on developments in automotive technologies and repair techniques.
• Contribute to efficient workshop operations and timely completion of work.

Requirements
• Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (or equivalent trade qualification).
• Minimum 2 years relevant experience as a Motor Mechanic.
• Sound knowledge of automotive mechanical and electrical systems.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Strong communication skills and commitment to customer service.
