Job Description
Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced professional to lead quality and fabrication activities for power transformer tanks (up to 500 MVA). The role requires strong expertise in heavy fabrication, welding, and quality systems within transformer manufacturing or similar industries.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee end-to-end fabrication of transformer tanks, ensuring compliance with design, quality, and safety standards
Manage welding operations (SAW, SMAW, GTAW) for thick plate fabrication
Ensure quality control and inspection at all stages (raw material to final dispatch)
Implement and monitor NDT activities (UT, RT, PT, visual inspection)
Handle pressure testing, oil tightness, and leak-proof validation of tanks
Review and approve WPS, PQR, WPQ and welding procedures
Drive root cause analysis (RCA), CAPA, and continuous improvement initiatives
Coordinate with design, production, and client inspection teams
Manage customer inspections (utilities, EPCs, third-party agencies)
Ensure adherence to ISO, ASME, and relevant industry standards
Required Skills & Expertise
Strong experience in transformer tank fabrication / heavy fabrication
Hands-on knowledge of welding processes (SAW mandatory)
Expertise in NDT techniques (UT, RT, PT)
Understanding of thick plate fabrication and distortion control
Experience in pressure vessel or oil-filled equipment fabrication
Familiarity with quality systems, audits, and documentation
Ability to handle shop floor teams and production challenges
Candidate Profile
Experience: 10 18 years
Industry: Transformer manufacturing / Heavy fabrication / EPC / Pressure vessels
Proven experience in handling large transformer tanks (preferably 220 MVA, up to 500 MVA)
Strong exposure to shop floor operations and quality management
Prior experience in companies like BHEL, Hitachi Energy, CG Power and Industrial Solutions, Siemens Energy preferred
Qualification
Diploma / BE in Mechanical Engineering
Certifications in Welding / NDT (ASNT Level II preferred) will be an advantage
