Full Time Irrigation Technician
Salary Range $80,000 to $90,000 per annum
SUMMARY
The Irrigation Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, servicing, and repairing irrigation systems across NVD Fresh Produce’s greenhouse and farming operations. The role supports efficient water distribution and irrigation performance through the operation and maintenance of pumps, pipelines, valves, filtration systems, drip irrigation systems, sprinklers, and irrigation controllers.
Key Responsibilities
Irrigation System Installation and Operation
• Install, assemble, test, and maintain irrigation systems including pumps, pipelines, valves, filters, sprinklers, drip lines, pressure regulators, and irrigation controllers.
• Operate and monitor irrigation and fertigation systems to ensure efficient water distribution and irrigation performance across greenhouse and farming operations.
• Adjust irrigation schedules and water application rates based on crop requirements, seasonal conditions, soil moisture levels, and production needs.
Irrigation Equipment Inspection and Maintenance
• Conduct routine inspections of irrigation infrastructure to identify leaks, blockages, pressure inconsistencies, damaged components, and system faults.
• Diagnose and repair faults in irrigation equipment including pumps, motors, pipelines, filtration systems, valves, and control systems.
• Perform routine servicing, cleaning, calibration, and preventative maintenance of irrigation systems and equipment to maintain operational efficiency and reliability.
Water Management and Operational Support
• Monitor water usage and irrigation performance to support sustainable farming practices, water conservation objectives, and efficient resource management.
• Assist with the implementation and improvement of irrigation layouts and water management systems to support farm expansion and increased production capacity.
• Maintain accurate records relating to irrigation schedules, repairs, maintenance activities, water usage, and system performance.
Workplace Safety and Continuous Improvement
• Support compliance with workplace health and safety procedures, safe chemical and fertiliser handling practices, and operational standards relevant to irrigation and agricultural activities.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on irrigation efficiency, operational reliability, sustainable water management, and crop productivity.
Qualifications and Skills
• Relevant qualification or professional certificates in irrigation, agriculture, horticulture, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience
• Minimum 3 years of experience in irrigation system installation, operation, maintenance, and repair within agricultural or greenhouse farming environments
• Strong knowledge of irrigation systems including pumps, pipelines, valves, filtration systems, drip irrigation, sprinklers, and irrigation controllers
• Ability to diagnose faults, perform repairs, maintain accurate records, and support efficient irrigation operations
• Good communication, teamwork, and organisational skills with the ability to work effectively in outdoor and greenhouse farming environments
