The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will provide direct nursing care and support to clients who are in the process of detoxification, stabilization and/or transitioning into other residential addiction services while effectively challenging clients to ensure their safety and well-being. The LPN will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team and will utilize nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making. The individual will also teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families.
The Detox LPN will determine the nature and severity of clients presenting to the Detox program and will be responsible for gleaning medical information and pertinent psychiatric information from electronic and paper files. The LPN will be responsible for referrals, pre-screening, admissions and Med Care, in addition to directing client care as instructed by the physician and the nurse practitioner. The LPN will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the George Spady Society.
In addition to client care, this position will develop, promote, and maintain effective collaborative relationships with community agencies, professionals, and paraprofessionals and will liaise with the physicians, pharmacy, hospitals, treatment facilities and inner-city services and other community supports.
Description of Duties and Responsibilities
•Demonstrate ethical practice and professionalism in working with clients, peers, and healthcare providers
•Accept responsibility for continuing competence through ongoing professional development
•Maintain current working knowledge of relevant policies, acts, legislation, and standards
•Complete initial admission of new clients and collaborate with the LPN to ensure ongoing care throughout the client stay
•Ensure that client care is ethical and meets a high standard of care
•Implement and ensure physicians and Nurse Practitioner orders are conducted
•Serve in the orientation of new medical employees and students
•Provide health education to clients, families, and staff
Position Qualifications
•Knowledge of the principles of recovery and trauma informed practice
•Knowledge of nursing theory and practice withing client/family-centered model of care
•Knowledge of CALPNA standards for Nursing Practice
•Knowledge of health services is available for clients experiencing substance misuse problems
•Developed skills in conflict resolution, and de-escalation techniques
•Demonstrated ability to prioritize, work independently and use a cooperative approach to program delivery
•Demonstrated knowledge of assessments and management of co-morbid medical disorders
•Demonstrated leadership, superior problem solving, critical thinking skills and strong team building skills
•Demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing priorities while working in a constantly dynamic environment
•Demonstrated knowledge of OAT and Psychopharmacology, including current psychotropic medications and side effects
•Management of acute withdrawal symptoms
•Knowledge of community and outpatient resources
•BLS Provider Training & First Aid/CPR/AED Training
•Current Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check
Hours of work: Permanent Day Shift work. 8 - 12 Hours, 07:45-20: 15, 4 on 4 off, Monday short day 07:45-16:15, Some Weekends.
