Full Time Personal Care Attendant (PCA)
SALARY RANGE $78,000 - $88,000

Position Summary
The Personal Care Attendant is primarily responsible for providing high-quality, personal, day-to-day care for consumers of YYMSAC Menkawum Ngurra Frail Aged Hostel working closely with the Enrolled and Registered Nurses, as well as the Clinical Nurse Manager. The Personal Care Attendant provide safe and efficient personal care services to those accessing the service.

The position has a key role in customer service and communication, as well as working effectively and positively within the Wari Kata team. The Personal Care Attendant will contribute to a professional and compatible work environment by providing a helpful, efficient, and courteous service to residents, family members, staff and volunteers that reflects the positive corporate image of Menkawum Ngurra.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Demonstrate a commitment to best practice in aged care
• Supporting and implementing the philosophy, objectives, and policies of the nursing home.
• Provision of quality care as per the consumer care plan
• Maintaining an optimal level of dignity, comfort, and quality of life for residents living in the home.
• Have a working knowledge of Standards and Expected Outcomes as they relate to the provision of activities.
• Observing safe work practices, reporting hazards to the health and welfare of residents or staff to the Service Manager or Registered Nurse on duty.
• Clear documentation of care provisions and outcomes.
• Recognise changes in a consumer's health status and reports appropriately to Team Leader.
• Adhere to all relevant workplace safety laws and regulations.
• Ensure the workplace is a safe one for self and colleagues.
• Comply with legislation, regulations and codes in the workplace relating to the role including. Workplace Health & Safety Responsibilities.
• Supervise and assist consumers with Personal Care and Activities of Daily Living in a holistic manner.
• Collaborate with others but work with minimum supervision on routine tasks.
• Work as a team member assisting fellow colleagues.
• Communicate effectively with consumers, relatives, and all members of the health care team.
• Demonstrate tolerance, patience and empathy with aged people and their needs.
• Demonstrate an appreciation of different backgrounds and beliefs.
• Participate in relevant in-service and external education programs, as required and/or requested.
• Work within the level of personal abilities, seeking assistance where and when necessary.
• Participating in quality assurance activities.
• Participating in committees as required.

Selection Criteria

Essential:
• Ability to work with frail older people and younger people with a disability.
• Able to work independently as well as being an effective member of the team.
• Effective time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
• Ability to deal with information in a confidential manner.
• Good physical fitness and ability to maintain manual handling work including lifting up to 10kgs on a frequent basis.
• Current holder of a 'C' class license and have the use of a roadworthy vehicle.
• Current first aid certificate
• Satisfactory Police Clearance.

Desirable:
• Certificate Il or Ill in Aged Care or higher or equivalent
• Undergoing a traineeship in Certificate Ill in Aged Care
• At least 3 years working as an unqualified PCA/ECA in a closely related field
• Basic Computer Skills
