Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Finance & Accounting Officer to support the management of core accounting functions, financial reporting, and compliance activities. This role is ideal for a proactive professional who can effectively balance day-to-day accounting operations with strategic financial analysis.
Working closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the successful candidate will provide guidance to the bookkeeper and play a key role in reviewing and maintaining accurate financial records, supporting reporting processes, and ensuring smooth accounting operations across multiple client portfolios. Experience with cloud-based accounting systems such as Xero, QuickBooks Online, and Zoho Books is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Monitor financial performance, budgets, and cash flow projections
Conduct variance analysis and provide actionable insights to management
Support financial planning and forecasting processes
Accounting Operations
Oversee full-cycle accounting: accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and reconciliations
Ensure accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions
Maintain and improve accounting systems, processes, and internal controls
Provide oversight and support to bookkeeping staff as required
Compliance & Tax
Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards and regulatory requirements
Prepare and/or review GST/HST filings, payroll remittances, and other statutory filings
Support corporate tax preparation processes
Maintain audit-ready financial records and liaise with external auditors as needed
Client & Stakeholder Support
Serve as a key point of contact for clients on accounting and financial matters
Provide financial insights and recommendations to support client decision-making
Collaborate with internal teams to deliver high-quality client service
Process Improvement & Systems
Identify opportunities to streamline accounting workflows and improve efficiency
Implement best practices in financial management and reporting
Support adoption, transition and optimization of cloud-based accounting tools (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, Zoho)
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
2-5 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced functions, pivot tables, financial modeling)
Hands-on experience with accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, Zoho or similar)
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with:
CPA or CFA designation, or currently working toward a CPA/CFA credential
Master’s degree (completed or in progress) in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field
Experience in a consulting, multi-client, or professional services environment
Experience in financial forecasting and business advisory
Eligibility
This position is open to all candidates legally eligible to work in Canada. Temporary residents must have a work permit valid for at least 6-months from start date.
