Full-time Chef
Position Summary
The Chef is responsible for the preparation, cooking, and presentation of high-quality Mediterranean cuisine while maintaining consistency, food safety standards, and operational efficiency in the kitchen. The Chef will play a key role in menu planning, supervising kitchen operations, maintaining ingredient quality, and ensuring a high standard of customer satisfaction.
The Chef will undertake the following duties:
Food Preparation and Cooking
• Prepare and cook a variety of authentic Mediterranean dishes in accordance with the restaurant menu and established recipes.
• Ensure consistency in taste, quality, and presentation of all meals served to customers.
• Prepare and cook appetisers, main courses, sauces, and specialty Mediterranean dishes.
Menu Planning and Development
• Collaborate in the design and development of menu items that showcase authentic Mediterranean cuisine and seasonal ingredients..
• Contribute ideas for new dishes and menu improvements to enhance customer experience.
• Ensure menu offerings cater to various dietary requirements including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options where possible.
Kitchen Operations
• Organise kitchen workflow to ensure efficient food preparation and service delivery.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organisation within the kitchen.
• Ensure kitchen equipment is used correctly and maintained in good working condition.
• Coordinate food preparation activities during service to ensure timely delivery of meals.
Food Safety and Compliance
• Ensure strict compliance with Australian food safety, hygiene, and sanitation regulations.
• Monitor food storage procedures including temperature control and stock rotation.
• Ensure all food is handled, prepared, and stored safely to prevent contamination.
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment in accordance with workplace health and safety regulations.
Inventory and Stock Management
• Monitor inventory levels and assist in ordering food supplies and ingredients.
• Ensure proper storage and rotation of stock to maintain freshness and minimise food waste.
• Assist in controlling food costs through appropriate portion control and efficient use of ingredients.
Team Collaboration and Supervision
• Work collaboratively with kitchen staff and management to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
• Assist in training new kitchen staff in food preparation techniques and kitchen procedures.
Quality Control
• Inspect food preparation and finished dishes to ensure quality and presentation standards are met.
• Respond to feedback from management and customers to improve food quality and service.
Skills and Competencies
• Strong knowledge of Mediterranean cooking techniques and ingredients.
• Strong attention to detail in food preparation and presentation.
• Ability to maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene.
Qualification Requirements
• Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery (minimum)
or
• Diploma or higher qualification in Hospitality / Commercial Cookery or related field
Full Time Cook
Position Summary
The Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of Mediterranean dishes while ensuring consistency in taste, quality, and presentation. The role supports the Chef and kitchen team in maintaining efficient kitchen operations and ensuring all food preparation complies with food safety and hygiene standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Food Preparation and Cooking
• Prepare and cook a variety of dishes in accordance with established recipes, menu requirements, and kitchen standards.
• Prepare ingredients for cooking including washing, peeling, chopping, marinating, seasoning, and portioning food items.
• Cook and present appetisers, main courses, and side dishes while maintaining consistency in flavour and presentation.
Menu Preparation Support
• Assist the Chef with menu preparation by supporting the preparation and implementation of menu items in accordance with recipes and quality standards.
Kitchen Operations
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
• Work collaboratively with kitchen staff to ensure smooth kitchen operations and timely food service.
Food Safety and Hygiene
• Ensure all food handling, preparation, and storage procedures comply with Australian food safety and hygiene regulations.
• Store food appropriately in temperature-controlled environments.
• Maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment at all times.
Stock and Inventory
• Assist in monitoring stock levels and notify the Chef or management when ingredients require replenishment.
• Ensure proper storage and rotation of ingredients to maintain freshness and minimise food wastage.
Qualifications
• Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or relevant qualification in hospitality or commercial cookery.
Work Experience
• Minimum 1 year of relevant experience working as a Cook or in a similar role in a restaurant environment.
• Experience working with Mediterranean cuisine or similar restaurant setting will be an advantage.
