Civil Engineering Draftsperson
Position Type: Full-time
Salary Range: $90,000 to $105,000 per annum
Design & Drafting
Prepare and review detailed engineering drawings, designs, and plans for civil engineering works and building structures.
Prepare sketches, charts, and tabulations to support civil engineering research and design processes .
Revise and update drawings as required during the project lifecycle to reflect variations or site-specific changes.
Prepare programs
Ensure all drawings and finished works comply strictly with relevant Australian Standards, building codes, and local government regulations.
Technical Fieldwork & Site Support
Perform and direct fieldwork, including assisting in site measurements and surveying to ensure accurate design implementation.
Conduct field tests and review laboratory tests of construction materials and soils to ensure quality and compliance with engineering specifications.
Inspect civil engineering works and organise/supervise maintenance and repair work to ensure structural integrity.
Provide technical support during the construction phase to clarify design requirements and resolve discrepancies between plans and site conditions.
Assess and interpret complex engineering/architectural drawings, engineering/architectural specifications, and technical reports.
Manage the submission of plans to local authorities and coordinate with stakeholders to ensure all relevant inspections are completed and approved.
Ensure strict adherence to building legislation, performance standards, and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) protocols, including the development of Site Safety Plans and Safe Work Method Statements.
Verify by inspections and tests that work areas, methods, materials, and plant equipment comply with OHS legislation and codes.
Project Coordination & Estimation
Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and construction teams to gather project requirements and interpret work assignment instructions.
Collect and analyse data, carrying out computations to support project planning and execution.
Assist in developing project documentation, including preparing material specifications and estimating material costs.
Communicate with clients and stakeholders to clarify design requirements and resolve any technical issues.
Financial Management & Contracts
Monitor overall project costs, quality, and budgets to ensure financial viability, including reviewing and approving cost reports and progress claims.
Manage head and subcontract conditions, including the timely procurement of trades and the resolution of variations and scope changes.
Finalise head contract accounts within one month of completion and ensure accurate projection and maintenance of cash flow.
Essential Qualifications & Skills
To be considered for this role, you must possess the following:
Qualification: A relevant Advanced Diploma (e.g., Civil Construction Design) or Associate Degree (ANZSCO Skill Level 2) is mandatory.
Experience: Demonstrated experience in a Civil Engineering Draftsperson or similar technical role.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in interpreting architectural drawings, engineering specifications, and technical reports.
Compliance Knowledge: Strong understanding of Australian building legislation, WHS protocols, and quality standards 3.
