About the Role
On behalf of RGM Maintenance, Yakr Pty Ltd is seeking a qualified Diagnostic Technician to join the Cairns workshop. This full-time position is classified under ANZSCO 321212 Diesel Motor Mechanic and is suited to candidates with strong diagnostic expertise in heavy diesel vehicles, particularly within the Daimler product range.
Key Responsibilities
• Diagnose mechanical and electronic faults in diesel engines, transmissions, braking, steering, and suspension systems
• Disassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble heavy vehicle mechanical components
• Replace defective or worn parts and confirm system performance in line with manufacturer specifications
• Carry out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance
• Utilise diagnostic scan tools and software to interpret fault codes and performance data
• Review technical documentation and complete accurate service and repair records
• Comply with workplace health and safety requirements, environmental standards, and roadworthiness regulations
• Respond to breakdowns and conduct field service repairs when required
Candidate Requirements
• Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in diesel diagnostics and mechanical repair
• Hands-on experience working on Mercedes-Benz, Fuso, or Freightliner trucks (essential)
• Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and computerised fault-finding systems
• HR or MR driver’s licence (preferred)
• Strong understanding of compliance obligations and workshop safety procedures
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a collaborative team
• High attention to detail and a consistent commitment to quality outcomes
