Full Time Diesel Motor Mechanic
SALARY $80,000+ SUPERANNUATION
The Diesel Motor Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, testing, and repairing diesel engines and associated mechanical systems of trucks, buses, and other heavy-duty vehicles operated or serviced by G & W Automotive. The role ensures vehicles are safe, reliable, compliant with regulatory standards, and operating at optimal performance.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Diagnostic and Fault Identification
o Detect, troubleshoot, and diagnose faults in diesel engines, transmissions, steering systems, braking systems, suspension, and other mechanical components using diagnostic tools and computer-assisted systems.
o Examine engines, transmissions, and vehicle systems to identify mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic faults and determine appropriate repair solutions.
• Repair and Mechanical Work
o Dismantle, remove, and reassemble engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms, and related components for inspection, repair, or replacement.
o Repair or replace worn, damaged, or defective parts, referring to service manuals and technical documentation as required.
o Disassemble and rebuild diesel engines in automobiles, trucks, buses, and construction or heavy-duty vehicles to restore full functionality.
o Test and adjust repaired mechanical components to ensure correct operation, safety, and performance standards are met.
• Maintenance and Servicing
o Perform scheduled and preventive maintenance services, including oil changes, lubrication, engine tune-ups, and system inspections to ensure smooth operation and extended vehicle lifespan.
o Conduct routine maintenance on engines, transmissions, tires, brakes, steering, and other vehicle systems to improve efficiency and reliability.
o Ensure all maintenance activities comply with environmental, pollution, and safety regulations.
• Testing and Compliance
o Test vehicles and mechanical systems after repair or servicing to confirm operational integrity and roadworthiness.
o Identify and detail work required to achieve roadworthy standards where applicable.
o Ensure all work is completed in accordance with workplace safety requirements and relevant Australian standards.
• Documentation and Communication
o Maintain accurate and detailed records of all repairs, maintenance activities, diagnostics, and parts replacements for compliance and future reference.
o Communicate effectively with clients regarding vehicle condition, completed repairs, and recommended services to support informed decision-making and customer satisfaction.
o Collaborate with team members to improve workflow efficiency, streamline repair processes, and reduce turnaround times.
Qualifications and Requirements
• Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanic or equivalent qualification.
• Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis or Repairs, or equivalent qualification.
• At least one year of work experience as a Diesel Motor Mechanic essential.
• Understanding policies and procedures pertaining to occupational safety and health.
