About the Role
The Senior Safety Consultant plays a pivotal role in driving proactive safety culture and leadership excellence across diverse industries and international settings.
This is a permanent position and is suited to a seasoned WHS professional with extensive experience in high-risk environments and a passion for developing people and systems. The role focuses on coaching, mentoring, and guiding leaders to embed risk-based thinking, human performance principles, and sustainable safety leadership practices.
Assignments may include client projects and leadership development programs across Africa, Asia, and South America, requiring cultural adaptability and the ability to communicate effectively across language and regional contexts.
Responsibilities
• Lead and facilitate safety leadership coaching engagements across project and corporate environments.
• Deliver tailored coaching and mentoring to executive, supervisory, and HSE personnel.
• Conduct safety culture and leadership maturity assessments to inform improvement strategies.
• Design and deliver leadership development workshops and behavioural safety programs.
• Provide strategic insights into safety systems, human factors, and performance leadership.
• Conduct field-based observations and leadership walkdowns to reinforce effective safety behaviours.
• Prepare clear and professional coaching summaries, recommendations, and progress reports.
• Maintain Sustainability’s professional standards in alignment with our global client frameworks.
• Demonstrate cultural awareness and flexibility when working across diverse geographical and organisational contexts.
• Contribute to the development of internal coaching tools, frameworks, and mentoring resources.
• Attend industry forums, workshops, and conferences to remain current in leadership and WHS innovation.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Minimum 15 years’ experience in Work Health & Safety, leadership, or consulting roles within high-risk industries (mining, construction, energy, etc.).
• Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, safety systems, and contemporary leadership practices.
• Proven ability to coach, influence, and communicate effectively across cultures and seniority levels.
• Experience delivering safety culture transformation or behavioural safety initiatives.
• Diploma or higher qualification in WHS or related discipline.
• Additional qualifications in coaching, leadership development, or organisational psychology desirable.
• Willingness to travel internationally and work across diverse environments.
• Fluency or working proficiency in one or more additional languages (e.g., French, Spanish, Portuguese) is advantageous.
