Statecraft, a global affairs digital daily, is looking for a Senior Editor.
The Senior Editor will be responsible for all literary and media publications by the organization. This includes writing and analysis on contemporary issues as well as moderation and evaluation of the material submitted by the writers of Statecraft and contributing external writers.
Experience: Minimum of 1-5 years of relevant work experience, including professional editorial experience with a news publication, think tank, or policy institute.
Educational Qualification: Masters Degree in International Relations, Political Science, Journalism, Public Policy, English Literature, or any other related field.
Responsibilities: The Senior Editor will be responsible for leading and managing a team of assistant editors and contributing writers by overseeing the conceptualization, research, and writing, of their written work. In a given day, one should expect to edit a minimum of four short-form articles (400-600 words) and one long-form article (800-1500 words). The senior editor must ensure that these articles are original, cohesive, and grammatically correct. Once the content is approved, they must design a caption for our social media profiles and oversee accompanying graphics. At the same time, the senior editor will also be responsible for writing two short form articles per day and one long-form article per week. They will also help oversee the website and social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn and help strategize areas for growth and improvement.
Attributes Required: The senior editor must have good English communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills, with an ability to analyze, condense, simplify, and contextualize complicated political issues for a general audience. We can’t stress the importance of the candidate’s English language skills enough! This includes a mastery of grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and stylistics. The candidate must also have a general understanding of global events and phenomena, and strong critical thinking and analytical skills. We are looking for someone who is able to multitask effectively and meet tight deadlines. If you can write a cohesive, grammatically immaculate 500-word article in the space of 90 minutes, then this is the job for you!
